Why do Catholics Pray to Mother Mary and to the Saints?

An excellent question, and one that has multiple answers. 

Before we answer, why do Catholics pray to Mother Mary and the Saints, we should ask a couple of clarification questions. The first, what is prayer? The second, why do we Pray? Prayer most simply defined is communication. Most often is communication with God.
